Google has launched the Google Assistant as a standalone app into the Play Store. Until now, the Google Assistant came bundled into the Google Search app on Android devices.

As a standalone app, you can now talk to Assistant with a single tap on the Assistant’s app icon. Of course, this was possible before by touching the mic button in Google search bar widget, but not all of us like to keep the Google search bar on the main home screen.

While voice is still the most convenient way to call Google Assistant, but when you have the device in hand with screen on, having an app icon to call Google Assistant is more convenient than using voice.

That said, the Google Assistant app still largely depends on the Google app. You must have the Google Search app installed (v7.11 or higher) to get this Google Assistant app working. On its own, the Google Assistant app would do nothing.

You can download the Google Assistant app on Play Store. But if you’re having issues downloading from Play Store, just grab the Google Assistant APK file from the download link below and install it like you’d install any other APK file on your Android device.
