The Gap is one of the most important progression spaces in Control Resonant. Unlike a conventional pause menu or upgrade screen, it is presented as a physical, liminal space inside Dylan Faden’s mind. Remedy uses it as the central location where you can modify your character and experiment with different builds.
The basic control is particularly simple: hold Down on the D-pad.
This is the same basic input used to access The Gap when playing with a controller. Current control information and Remedy’s own gameplay material both identify the D-pad-down input as the way to enter the area.
Once you are inside, you can spend time managing your character before returning to the normal Manhattan environment.

How to enter and leave The Gap in Control Resonant
Step 1
Make sure you are outside active combat. The Gap functions as Dylan’s build and upgrade space rather than a combat arena.
Step 2
Hold Down on the D-pad. This is the only way you can enter or leave the Gap.
Step 3
Wait for the transition into the liminal space.
Dylan will leave the normal Manhattan environment and enter The Gap. The transition is designed to be very quick, so you do not have to treat it as a separate loading destination in the traditional sense.

Step 4
Use the different upgrade and customization points inside The Gap to adjust your current build.
You can change your setup, investigate upgrades, work on abilities and experiment before returning to the Zone you were exploring.
What to do inside The Gap after defeating The Dancer
The Dancer is one of the game’s Resonants, the major encounters that serve as important sources of Dylan’s Combat Abilities. Defeating a Resonant changes your available build options, with the reward sequence leading into The Gap.
After the Dancer encounter, entering The Gap is therefore more than simply a way to leave the boss arena. It is where you process the new progression options unlocked through the fight.

Resonants can present choices involving Combat Abilities, and first-playthrough progression is designed around meaningful specialization rather than simply collecting every possible power.
This is also where you can adjust other parts of Dylan’s setup.
Remedy has specifically confirmed that The Gap is used to unlock upgrades for Dylan and the Aberrant, test builds and craft Artifacts.
How The Gap connects to the Curtain Fall trophy
One point that can confuse players is the Curtain Fall trophy.
The trophy description is “Kill the Resonant in the West Incursion Zone.” It is associated with the West Incursion Zone Resonant encounter.
However, current trophy guides report that the trophy does not necessarily pop immediately when the Resonant is defeated. Instead, you need to leave The Gap after the boss encounter for the trophy to trigger.
That means if you defeat the relevant Resonant and then find yourself inside The Gap, don’t assume the trophy has failed to register.
Simply complete the relevant post-boss sequence and hold Down on the D-pad to leave The Gap.
