Pebble users on Android should do a little dance today. The world’s most popular smartwatch officially supports Google’s Android wear platform now. This means the apps that supports Android wear will now work on your Pebble devices too; developers need not take the trouble of coding for it separately.

Pebble first introduced this feature for beta testers back in December. Now anyone can try out this new feature. Currently, the new features supports Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or higher. With this update, it is easy for you to send notifications to and receive responses from your Pebble watches.

According to a recent Canalys report, Pebble would face a serious competition once the Apple’s smartwatch and other Android Wear products like the LG Watch Urbane arrive in the coming months.

You can define up to five custom replies and send them from your Pebble and through most Android-compatible SMS apps. Also added in the update is watchfaces and automatic app updates when Pebble is idle. A variety of bug fixes related to WhatsApp notifications have been addressed as well.

Though some of the apps won’t work as they would on an actual Android Wear watch because Pebble doesn’t feature carry a microphone for voice response, this is still a great improvement. You can grab the latest version of the app (v2.3) right from the Google Play Store.
