Samsung installs a download mode in its Galaxy devices, that are a route to interact with device when you need to install a firmware, recover, etc. on the device. With Galaxy A9, it’s the same. Here are some ways how you could access Galaxy A9 download mode to install a firmware, stock or custom recovery and or root.

If you are new to this, we recommend you first watch a video below showcasing the little trick. It’s not hard, and after doing it once, you will never need any help regarding this.

To reboot into Galaxy A9 download mode, there are three tricks actually, although the first one given below, the hardware trick, works best, and in all cases.

If you need to reboot into download mode frequently, and have device plugged into computer, then you can use ADB method too mostly. Lastly, for Galaxy A9 sets that are rooted, an app from the play store will make things easiest. But, you need to have root access first.

Let’s check 3 great ways to to boot into Galaxy A9 download mode.

Method 1: Using Hardware Buttons

Here’s a video overview of how to enter Galaxy A9 2016 download mode. This video was made using Galaxy S6 Edge, but is fully applicable on your device too.

This method is a fail-proof method that’ll always work for you, unless you’ve broken one of the hardware keys on your Galaxy A9 2016. In such a case, use the other two methods.

Step 1. Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.

Step 2. Press and hold  Volume down + Power + Home button together and release them once you see the Warning! screen on your device.

Step 3. Press Volume Up to accept the warning and boot into download mode.

Method 2: Using ADB

ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, a tool used to send terminal commands to an Android device via a PC command line. ADB requires a bit of setup, but it gets the job done with much lesser effort than hardware buttons, so pretty useful in cases when you’ve to boot in download mode frequently. Also, if (for some reason), your hardware buttons aren’t working, then ADB is a very good alternative to boot into download mode.

Step 1. Setup ADB on your PC.

Step 2. Install Galaxy A9 2016 Driver on your PC.

Step 3. Prepare your phone:

  • Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on ‘Build number’ seven times to enable developer options.
  • Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the ‘USB debugging’ checkbox (under Debugging section).

Step 4. Connect your phone to PC with a USB cable and if/when a pop-up screen shows up on Phone asking you to ‘Allow USB debugging?‘ for the computer, make sure you tick the checkbox and tap OK.

Allow USB Debugging

Step 5. Now open a command window on your PC. And issue the following command:

adb reboot bootloader

That’s it. Your Galaxy A9 2016 will instantly boot into Download Mode.

Method 3: Using an App

Yes! There’s an app for rebooting your phone into download mode, and it’s more easier than the methods we discussed above. But it won’t work unless you’ve root access on your device, and since not everyone roots their device, we’ve put this as the last method here.

Step 1. Install the Quick Boot (Reboot) app from Play Store on your Galaxy A9 2016 → Play Store link.

Step 2. Open the app and grant Root Access.

Step 3. Select ‘Bootloader‘ from the list of options and it’ll boot your Galaxy A9 2016 into Download mode.

That’s all.
