QUICK ANSWER
Palworld 1.0’s best new base spots are mostly in Sunreach, the World Tree approach, and water-friendly lakes, rivers, shores, and outer islands opened up by the Aquatic Construction Kit.

The 1.0 update reshaped the Palpagos islands — the floating Sunreach region to the southeast, the late-game World Tree area, and a scatter of small new islands around the edges. Just as important, water foundations mean the best base is no longer whichever patch of flat ground you happen to find. Here’s where to build across every region, with coordinates and the tradeoffs for each.

What separates the 1.0 base spots

A good base in 1.0 comes down to two things pulling together: how it looks and how it works. The showpiece spots have a strong theme and a view — reflective water, a boss silhouette on the horizon, a glowing pool — while the practical ones give you flat, spacious, well-connected ground with resources close by. The best picks manage both, ideally with a fast travel point nearby but not sitting on top of the island, and without a boss spawning in your build zone.

1.0 also reworked raids and tower arenas, so elevation and choke points matter more than they used to — one more reason the new water builds have jumped up the list.

Location Coordinates Best use
Dragon Mouth Peak Northwest Sunreach island Top Sunreach base, Jetragon view, region fast-travel anchor
Waterball Gorge Beside Dragon Mouth Peak Heavy ore and nearby tower loot (small, tight)
Southern Sunreach corner Large island south of Waterball Gorge Compact functional base with a flat drop-down
Flat Sunreach island -560, -1500 Flat, boss-free build with water expansion and fishing
Waterfall valley Sunreach beacon route Great looks, but a boss sits on top
Central Sunreach northern tip Southern central Sunreach island Wider, flatter functional base with Soralite nearby
Layered beacon pools Up the Sunreach beacon waterfall Showpiece aesthetic build (tight)
Azure Woodland beacon Azure Woodland island Vertical beacon base needing stairs and flight
Far Cry Marsh circle -300, -1400 Flat, spacious Soralite ore farm
Far Cry Marsh water edge Beside the -300, -1400 circle Water build and fishing with a nicer backdrop
World Tree glowing pool -800, 678 Best World Tree-adjacent base, glowing pool and wall
World Tree shallow shore Beside -800, 678 Roomier World Tree-adjacent shore build
Frostbound summit lake Frostbound Mountain summit Circular over-water build and fishing (intense cold)
Lower icy mountain lake 155, -22 Milder-cold lake by a dungeon, big right-side space
Northern desert lake 400, 600 Open desert lake, clean space, fishing, some ore
Natural Bridge river 400, -230 Wide river by fast travel, archway build, two-sided resources
Swamp Marsh crescent 300, -260 Character-rich swamp crescent with little islands
Giant bones 150, -520 Themed build under and around giant bones on water
Dry Dunes -690, -643 Desert-water contrast, oil, sandstone and volcano backdrop
Feybreak northeastern shore -673, -1077 Whitewashed bony desert shore, water room, bone-rocks
Feybreak overhanging tree -850, -1230 Tight but workable water spot under a big tree
Feybreak yellow crystal lake -900, -1220 Wide, bright-yellow crystal lake and river
Western split-lake -1324, -1165 Path splits the lake; build outward into wide open space
Purple central lake -1227, -1535 Large cold purple lake, fishing, general resources
Ice crystal beach -1338, -1549 Easy purple-region sandy shore build with ocean room
Southwestern purple island -1651, -948 Isolated outer island, flat spots, icy-crystal backdrop
Sandstone Gate -1280, -621 Giant archway desert island plus a hidden tunnel option
Phantom Isle -900, -200 Broken-ship island, flat water, fishing (NW of volcano)
Southern volcanic island -1150, -1903 Triple-pillar hot island, water build with pillar backdrop

That’s the full spread to scan before the regional breakdown below. Where the map gives an exact readout, the coordinate is listed; where it doesn’t, the entry describes the placement instead.

Aquatic Construction Kit and the World Tree building block

Before you scout, two 1.0 systems shape every choice below. The Aquatic Construction Kit is the big one: it lets you drop foundations straight onto water and build your own flat platform anywhere there’s a lake, river, shoreline or shallow, which turns dozens of previously unbuildable spots into real bases. It’s an Ancient Technology unlock, so you’ll need to reach level 66 on the tech tree before you can craft it.

The other thing to know is the World Tree. It’s a gorgeous late-game region packed with biomes, but base building is switched off inside the whole zone right now — so every “World Tree” pick below is actually on the entrance island rather than the tree itself.

Feature What changes
Aquatic Construction Kit Place foundations straight onto water for instant flat build space
Level 66 Ancient Technology The tech-tree unlock required before you can craft the kit
World Tree zone No base building allowed inside it; use the entrance island instead
QUICK WIN

Unlock the Aquatic Construction Kit before you go base-hunting — most of the spots below only work once you can drop foundations on water, so it’s worth prioritising on the tech tree.

Dragon Mouth Peak: the top Sunreach pick

The strongest base in Sunreach sits on the floating island to the northwest, the one with the Jetragon spawn — Dragon Mouth Peak. It has the looks: reflective water, a cave-like feel, and that Jetragon boss framed right in your view. What pushes it to the top, though, is position. Sunreach is where you’ll spend a lot of time before the World Tree, and setting up here effectively hands the whole island chain a fast-travel-style anchor it otherwise lacks.

The boss spawns near it rather than on it, which is exactly the balance you want. Drop water foundations off the edge with the Aquatic Construction Kit and the tight island suddenly has all the flat space you need.

Waterball Gorge ore pocket

Right next to Dragon Mouth Peak is a tiny island, Waterball Gorge, worth a look mainly for the ore — there’s a lot of it to mine here, plus a nearby tower to crack open for a couple of chest spawns. The catch is size: it’s small and tight, so treat it as an ore outpost rather than a main home.

Southern Sunreach corner near the flat drop-down

Just south of Waterball Gorge is a much bigger island with a few good spots, if you can work around the slopes covering most of it. The usable pick is a small corner that works as a compact functional base, with the option to drop down to a wider, flatter shelf just below for more room. The one warning is a boss spawn nearby that sits a little too close for comfort.

Flat Sunreach island at -560, -1500

On that same island, the spot at -560, -1500 is the healthier all-round choice. It’s naturally flat, there’s no boss spawning on top of it, and you can spread out onto the water to form a neat circular build area with foundations reaching into the center. It doubles as a convenient fishing spot too.

If you want one dependable, low-drama base in Sunreach rather than a scenic gamble, this is it.

Waterfall valley near the Sunreach beacon route

Head up across the waterfall and down the valley from there and you’ll find one of the better-looking corners of the island — genuinely a cool environment to build in. The problem is a boss that spawns right on top of the spot, so it’s a great view you’ll mostly admire rather than settle.

Northern tip of the central Sunreach island

Sunreach’s central cluster is three islands. One is too tight and sloped to bother with, but the southern one has plenty of Soralite ore to farm, and its northern tip is the part worth building on — separate, a bit wider and flatter, with a nice background view. It’s a solid functional base; just don’t expect it to be as dramatic to look at as the showpiece spots.

Layered pools up to the Sunreach beacon

For pure spectacle in Sunreach, this is the one. A series of little pools steps up the waterfall, layer by layer, to the point where you deactivate one of the beacons for the main quest. It’s a striking, genuinely unique setting.

Functionally it’s tight, so it’s a build for someone willing to work vertically and creatively rather than plop down a standard grid — but if you lean into it, few spots in the game look better.

Azure Woodland vertical beacon base

The last Sunreach island, Azure Woodland, is a little cramped like the others, but there’s a nice option dropping down by the beacon. Expect a vertical design with staircases and some flying to get in and out; space is limited, so it rewards a compact, tall build rather than a sprawl.

Far Cry Marsh Soralite circle at -300, -1400

Over at the Far Cry Marsh, the spot at -300, -1400 is all about function. There’s a ring of Soralite ore here on ground that’s flat and genuinely spacious — the easiest Soralite farm to lay out on this list. It isn’t much to look at, so pick it when you want a productive ore base rather than a view.

Water-edge spot beside the Far Cry Marsh circle

Dip just east of that circle and you get a little water and a nicer backdrop. You can build out onto the water here or keep to land with fishing right beside you — a gentler-looking alternative if the bare ore circle feels too plain.

World Tree entrance island glowing pool at -800, 678

Since you can’t build inside the World Tree zone, the entrance island — where you head in with the whale — is the next best thing, and it’s a unique biome in its own right that echoes the World Tree’s look. It’s separate from everything, with no alpha boss in your way.

The standout is right below the wall at -800, 678, built on and around a gorgeous glowing pool with the main path running through it. This is as close to a World Tree base as 1.0 lets you get.

Shallow shore on the World Tree entrance island

Want more room on the same island? The shores just over from the pool let you build on shallow water with the Aquatic Construction Kit, keeping the wall as a dramatic backdrop while giving you a lot more space to spread out.

Frostbound Mountain summit lake

Back in the original world, water building opens up a run of spots that never worked before. First up is the lake at the Frostbound Mountain summit. It’s a clean circular pool with nothing in the way — you can run a boardwalk out from the corners or lean the whole base over the water, and fishing is plentiful.

The downsides are real, though: there aren’t useful resources right next to you, and the summit demands intense cold protection, so this is an aesthetic pick you commit to.

Lower icy mountain lake at 155, -22

If that cold sounds like too much, drop down from the icy summit to the lake at 155, -22. It’s a beautiful, tucked-away spot sitting right in front of a dungeon for convenient access, with nothing invasive around it.

Build by the shore or straight out on the water — there’s plenty of room on the right side to lay a proper circle. It’s the milder-climate version of the summit and much easier to live at day to day.

Northern desert lake at 400, 600

For a desert base with breathing room, this lake up on the northern side of the desert at 400, 600 is a great shout. It’s wide and open, outlined by trees, with fishing on the spot and a little ore for resources.

Turning a lake like this into a base beats striking out into empty ocean — you get all the space with an actual setting around you.

Natural Bridge river corridor at 400, -230

1.0’s water building really shines on the long, wide rivers, and the stretch by the Natural Bridge fast travel point at 400, -230 is a prime example. There’s uninterrupted space to work with and resources on every side.

Then there’s the bridge itself: shallow waters and an archway you can build through, around and under. A base that runs parallel to or overlaps the arch would have been far too awkward before you could build on water this easily; now it’s one of the more creative spots going.

Swamp Marsh crescent island at 300, -260

Very close by, with land to anchor to and water to expand onto, is the Swamp Marsh at 300, -260. The draw is the crescent-shaped chunk of land on the northwestern side, with big trees, little islands dotted around and the swamp biome giving it real character.

You’ve got the water to build out over and the islands to incorporate — it stands out as somewhere with a bit of thought behind it rather than another featureless circular lake.

Giant bones water base at 150, -520

You may have passed through the bones of a former giant during the World Tree relic hunt; at 150, -520 it now makes a themed base. The land alone is too tight among the bones, but water foundations give you flat ground to build under and around them.

If the bones feel too constricting you can push a little further out onto the water and keep them purely as a backdrop. A base that matches their colour scheme looks the part.

Dry Dunes sandstone water base at -690, -643

Another desert option, the Dry Dunes spot at -690, -643, has more going on than a plain lake. There’s a bit of oil for resources, and while the surrounding land is tight and uneven, the water gives you plenty of flat space to build on.

The payoff is the backdrop: sandstone structures around you and a huge volcano behind — far more texture and contrast than a typical desert base.

Feybreak northeastern shore at -673, -1077

Southwest toward the Feybreak isles, near Sunreach, the northeastern shore at -673, -1077 is the first pick. There’s enough flat water to build out onto, the usual resources of the biome, and a whitewashed, bony desert vibe with rock structures that genuinely look like giant bones.

Work in toward the landmass and there’s also a small beach spot tucked right under those bony stone formations, if you’d rather keep your feet on solid ground.

Overhanging tree water spot in Feybreak at -850, -1230

A bit further along at -850, -1230 is a tighter but very workable water spot beneath a large overhanging tree, with two smaller ones beside it. Building out onto the water gives you the space an otherwise cramped patch wouldn’t — a characterful little home.

Yellow crystal lake in Feybreak at -900, -1220

Just west and down at -900, -1220, the environment changes completely: bright yellows, crystal rocks in the background and overhanging cliffs, with a lot more room to build.

You can settle in the lake here or follow the river further down for another option, but the wide, open feel and that vivid yellow make this the pick of the area.

Western split-lake base at -1324, -1165

Over on the west side, in a red but fairly dry area, the lake at -1324, -1165 has a neat trick: a path cuts straight through the middle, splitting it in half. You can build to either side, or set a central platform and grow outward from the middle into the lake, which then leads onto the ocean.

It’s wide and clear with nothing in the way, so construction stays refreshingly straightforward.

Purple cold-region central lake at -1227, -1535

The far southwest turns intensely purple and, fair warning, very cold. The large lake dead in the center at -1227, -1535 shows off the region well — ice crystals around a strikingly unique environment, fishing spots along the water and general resources to hand. There’s a lot of lake to work with if you can handle the climate.

Ice crystal beach at -1338, -1549

For an easier setup in that same purple region, this beach at -1338, -1549 is the friendlier choice. A sandy shore leads out onto the water toward the ocean, backed by a cool ice crystal, purple-and-blue tones and violet trees.

There’s plenty of ocean-side room, and being a beach rather than a mountain lake it’s simply less fiddly to build on. There are other options nearby — a northern beach, a southeastern spot — but this is the standout.

Southwestern purple outer island at -1651, -948

Out at the southwestern point of the map, just off that coast, is an outer island at -1651, -948 in the same purple, icy-crystal palette. It has a few nice flat areas to build on and an interesting backdrop — a better isolated retreat than simply plonking a base out on the open ocean.

Sandstone Gate island at -1280, -621

Northeast of there, Sandstone Gate at -1280, -621 is a desert island defined by its huge archway — build under the gate or out on the water beside it.

There’s also a surprise: a hole in the ground drops into a long tunnel you could tuck a hidden base inside. It’s cramped and finding the widest point takes some hunting, but a triangular spot down there gives you the most room. Unusual, and very much its own thing.

Phantom Isle broken ship at -900, -200

Phantom Isle at -900, -200 is a tiny island built around a broken ship, with caves cutting into its side, flat water to build on and a couple of fishing spots. It sits northwest of the volcano, and the wrecked-ship centerpiece gives it a strong theme for not much footprint.

Southern volcanic island at -1150, -1903

Finally, for something completely different, the volcanic island right down south at -1150, -1903 runs hot and hard to deal with, but it looks fantastic — especially the triple pillar rising out of its center. Build in the small center if you can put up with the tight space, or separate off and build on the water with the pillars as a backdrop.

There’s another volcanic island up to the northeast, Flame Post Isle, if you want an alternate, though its space is tighter. Come to the southern island when you specifically want a hot, dramatic setting.

Which base location to build first

With this many options, the right one comes down to your goal, and the table below sorts the standouts by what you’re building for. Two extra notes worth having: the central Sunreach island’s northern tip is a scenic backup Soralite farm if the Far Cry Marsh circle feels too plain, and for early crude oil the Sunlit Isle at 405, -483 just east of the start is an easy-to-defend spot worth a second base.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you build a base inside the World Tree area in Palworld?

No. The World Tree is a separate late-game map, and base building is disabled inside the whole zone as of the 1.0 launch. That may loosen in a future patch, so treat it as the current state rather than a permanent rule — for now, the entrance island is the closest you can get.

What level do you need for the Aquatic Construction Kit?

You need to hit level 66 to unlock it on the tech tree, where it sits as an Ancient Technology. Because that’s an endgame unlock, water bases are a mid-to-late-game upgrade rather than a starter move — before then you’re limited to the flat land spots on this list, and most of the lake, river and shoreline picks only open up once you’ve got it.

What is the best Sunreach base location in Palworld?

Dragon Mouth Peak, the northwestern floating island by the Jetragon spawn. If you’re only setting up one base across the Sunreach chain, make it this one — it looks the part and effectively acts as the region’s fast travel anchor, which none of the other Sunreach spots give you.

Which Palworld base location is best for Soralite ore?

The Far Cry Marsh circle at -300, -1400 — a flat ring of Soralite that’s the easiest to build a dedicated ore base around. Soralite is something you’ll burn through as you progress, so a purpose-built mine pays off; Sunreach’s central island also has Soralite if you’d rather keep your mining closer to the floating islands.

Are water bases worth building in Palworld?

Very much so. Water foundations turn cramped, sloped or otherwise unbuildable shorelines into flat, spacious ground, which is why so much of this list sits on lakes and rivers. They also make strong defensive layouts — a base ringed by water is tough for ground raids to reach — though you’ll want to plan for aerial and ranged attackers, who don’t care about your moat. The one requirement is unlocking the Aquatic Construction Kit first.
