Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launched with a roster of 12 playable fighters, each featuring unique bending styles, movement options, and three dedicated support partners. Thanks to cross-play and rollback netcode, the competitive scene has developed quickly, and early tournaments have already highlighted several standout characters.

While future balance patches may shift rankings, the following tier list reflects the current competitive consensus based on matchup strength, consistency, damage potential, neutral control, and ease of converting hits into winning situations.

S Tier characters

CharacterWhy they’re top tier
ZukoExcellent pressure, powerful divekick, safe offense, strong Flow State combos, works well with nearly every support.
AangIncredible mobility, difficult to pin down, consistent damage, versatile against every matchup.
KorraHigh damage, excellent corner pressure, balanced toolkit with very few weaknesses.

These three currently define much of the ranked meta. Zuko’s aggressive offense and aerial options make him one of the hardest characters to defend against, while Aang’s speed allows experienced players to constantly force mistakes. Korra remains one of the safest tournament picks thanks to her balanced offense and defense.

A Tier characters remain tournament worthy

CharacterStrength
AzulaExtremely high combo potential but execution heavy.
KataraStrong zoning and excellent space control.
TophOutstanding defense with powerful counterplay.
KuviraGreat range and pressure once momentum starts.

These fighters can absolutely win tournaments but generally require better matchup knowledge or more precise execution than the S Tier characters.

B Tier characters are solid choices

CharacterNotes
SokkaBalanced fundamentals but lacks explosive offense.

C Tier characters need more effort

CharacterWeakness
IrohSlower gameplay and limited offensive pressure.
ZaheerRequires exceptional reads and matchup knowledge to succeed consistently.

Neither character is weak enough to be unplayable, but they generally have more difficult matchups across the current roster.

How to choose your first main

  1. Try Aang if you’re completely new to fighting games. His mobility makes learning neutral much easier.
  2. Choose Zuko if you enjoy aggressive rushdown and long combo strings. He currently offers one of the highest reward-to-effort ratios.
  3. Pick Korra if you prefer an all-around character without major weaknesses.
  4. Move to Azula once you’re comfortable with advanced mechanics, as her execution requirements are significantly higher but so is her damage output.

Does support selection affect tiers?

Absolutely. Avatar Legends allows each fighter to pair with one of three support characters, and those assists can dramatically change combo routes, pressure sequences, and defensive options. Some characters jump an entire tier with their optimal support, especially Zuko and Azula, who benefit greatly from assists that extend aerial combos or improve corner pressure. Because of this, the meta is still evolving as players continue discovering new support synergies.

The launch version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is surprisingly balanced, with no character being completely unviable. Zuko, Aang, and Korra currently sit at the top of the competitive ladder thanks to their consistency, strong neutral tools, and excellent damage output. Meanwhile, characters like Azula and Toph are only slightly behind and may become even stronger as players optimize their techniques. Since the game has only recently launched, expect future balance patches and tournament discoveries to reshape this tier list over the coming weeks.
