Software updates for smartphones sold through large telecommunication companies like AT&T basically take forever, with stages after stages of screening and remodeling of the product before it is released for use.
This delay may take even longer for devices that have been on the market for a year or so like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S7 Active and LG V30.
At a time when their successors are looking forward to this month’s security patches, AT&T is now rolling out January 2019 patches to the three handsets. All three updates are based on Oreo, although Android Pie is coming to the Note 8 and V30.
If you own the Galaxy Note 8, watch out for an update with software version N950USQS5CRL1 and for those using the Active model, the update is arriving as version G891AUCS4CSA3. The LG V30 is receiving an update with version H93120m. All three updates are airborne, meaning some users will get the download notification ahead of others.
The file sizes are 182MB, 215MB, and 155MB respectively. As noted, security patches for January have been included in the update, but that’s not all. As usual, expect plenty of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and general stability improvements.
