At the ongoing Computex trade show in Taipei, the Taiwan based tech firm Asus has announced the second generation Android Wear smartwatch called ZenWatch 2. The launch of this device was confirmed by the firm last month.
The ZenWatch 2 features aesthetic refinements and minor functionality enhancements that make the device impressive. The ZenWatch 2 was launched in two sizes and the larger one is similar to the yesteryear model with its 41 mm face and 22 mm band. The smaller variant of the ZenWatch 2 has a 32 mm face and an 18 mm band.
The display on both the models of the ZenWatch 2 are OLED panels that are protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 coating and they are energized by a Qualcomm chipset that is likely to be a Snapdragon 400 chipset as in the original ZenWatch.
The ZenWatch 2 has a crown on its side that is alleged to add some functionality that is not specified by Asus. The device has water and dust resistance with the IP67 rating. Also, there is a new magnetic charging system that takes over the cradle system used in the original model.
Furthermore, Asus added that the battery life should be enhanced, but the firm did not reveal additional details. In terms of software, the firm highlighted the enhanced Remote Camera app and the redesigned Wellness app.
The ZenWatch 2 has been unveiled in gunmetal, silver and rose-gold with a choice of straps made of leather, rubber or metal. There will also be a Swarovski encrusted band. As of now, Asus has not revealed the pricing and availability details of its second generation smartwatch.
