Unbound Head Captain (Char) specializes in stacking burn and creating skeleton traps, while Unbound Rainman (Forecast) uses rain clouds, frog storms, stuns, and poison frogs for area control.
They solve different problems, so the stronger pick depends on the lane, enemy flow, and how much time each unit has to build value. Their evolved kits also reward different positioning, making a universal winner less useful than understanding how each mechanic triggers.
Head Captain (Char) vs. Rainman (Forecast)
| Unit | Battlefield role | Core mechanics |
|---|---|---|
| Head Captain (Char) | Sustained damage and path traps | Infinite burn stacking, shield interaction, skeleton traps, and an active blast |
| Rainman (Forecast) | Position-based area control | Climate meter, rain cloud, frog storm, immobilization, and poison frogs |
Neither unit replaces the other across every map. Head Captain rewards sustained engagement, while Rainman needs carefully chosen zones where enemies repeatedly cross its effects.
How to obtain and evolve Head Captain and Rainman in Anime Expeditions
Both units come from Summer Capsules and evolve with materials purchased from the event shop.
STEP 1/4
Buy Summer Capsules

Speak with Title Sage, open the Tidal Siege Summer Shop, and buy Summer Capsules for 100 Sand Dollars each.
STEP 2/4
Open the capsules

Go to Items, select Capsules, and open Summer Capsules until you pull Rainman and Head Captain.
STEP 3/4
Buy the evolution materials

In the event shop, buy Cloud Discs and an Overgrown Beard; each item costs 10,000 Sand Dollars.
STEP 4/4
Evolve both units

In the Evolve menu, use one Cloud Disc and 10,000 Gold for Rainman (Forecast), then one Overgrown Beard, one Cloud Disc, and 10,000 Gold for Head Captain (Char).
Reserve enough event currency for the evolution materials before spending the rest on capsules, so a successful pull does not remain stuck in its base form.

How Unbound Head Captain (Char) works

Head Captain (Char) does not have its complete passive immediately after placement. Upgrades unlock the range-entry burn first and then the remaining passive effects, while its attack develops from a small area hit into a wider strike and Flaming Column. Upgrade it before judging how much the unit contributes.
Once unlocked, an enemy entering Head Captain’s range receives burn. A shielded enemy receives an additional burn stack that can pierce, and the unit’s burn can stack infinitely. Each stack raises burn damage by 5% against enemies within range, up to a 150% increase.
A takedown inside its range transforms the defeated enemy into a skeleton, with a base capacity of three. Each skeleton waits on the path as a trap, dealing 25% of Head Captain’s current damage when touched and applying burn within three range when it explodes. Every summoned skeleton also adds 5% to the unit’s damage, and equipping the Fiery Staff raises the skeleton capacity from three to five.
Head Captain’s activation deals 200% of its current damage to every enemy in range, followed by another 100% divided among those enemies. It has a 120-second cooldown and a two-placement limit, so each placement should cover a busy section of the path rather than an isolated lane.
How Unbound Rainman (Forecast) controls lanes
Rainman lets you select a position within its range and summon a rain cloud. Enemies beneath it take damage equal to 50% of Rainman’s current damage every second, and each cloud hit adds five points to the climate meter. At 100, the rain cloud becomes a frog storm; the meter then drains by 20 per second until it empties and changes back into a rain cloud.
The frog storm controls a compact area around its position. An enemy coming within five range stops moving for five seconds, while an enemy defeated inside the storm becomes a poison frog.
Poison frogs are stationary path summons that detonate when an enemy walks over them. The base passive makes each frog deal 100% of Rainman’s current damage and apply poison within three range. Rainman’s personal equipment enhances that effect to 200% damage and expands the poison area to five range; those higher values are equipment bonuses, not the base passive.
Best uses for Head Captain (Char) and Rainman (Forecast)
| Unit | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Head Captain (Char) | Long waves and busy lanes that allow damage and traps to accumulate | Short waves provide less time and fewer takedowns for building momentum |
| Rainman (Forecast) | Chokepoints where its overlapping control zones stay on the enemy path | Exact positioning determines whether enemies trigger its strongest effects |
The sandbox setup used Unbound, full ascension, triple-S stats, personal equipment, and enemies with configurable health. Its raw damage numbers therefore represent a loaded test setup rather than the standard performance of a newly evolved unit.
Unbound may suit both kits, and Head Captain may have the stronger current meta case, but those remain showcase impressions rather than a controlled trait comparison or definitive tier ranking.
