The LG G5 has been succeeded twice and so has the OS that comes preinstalled on the device. Launched in early 2016, the G5 has Android Marshmallow out of the box and received an update to Nougat in late 2016. Since it’s a high-end device regardless of the age, it means that the phone still has one more OS upgrade in the shape of Android 8.0 Oreo.
Well, if the latest developments from Korea are anything to go by, the LG G5 Oreo update is coming soon. LG has published Oreo kernel sources for the LG G5 variants with model numbers F700K, F700L, and F700S, all of which are sold in Korea.

This is an indicator that Android Oreo for the LG G5 is almost ready to be released in Korea, which is mostly the case with LG software updates (they begin in Korea). We can only hope that the update will arrive on other variants of the device soon, too.
Other than the LG G5, the company is also lining up an Oreo update for the LG V20. According to Canada’s Fido, this update will arrive in August and going by the above logic, that LG outs software updates in Korea first before going global, we are likely to see Oreo on the V20 arrive a little earlier – in Korea.
