How To Get The Crake Bird Pet

Step 1: Locate a Crake Bird

Crake birds are flightless terrestrial birds that spawn in random locations. The most reliable area is near Pororin Village, particularly around the fenced areas and trees with white flowers in the Howling Hills region.

Run around these areas and look for small bird-like creatures. Crakes blend in with other flightless birds like Kiwi Birds, Mesites, and Swamphens that also spawn in this zone.

Step 2: Gather Elderberries

You need Elderberries to tame the Crake. There are two ways to get them:

  • Complete the Delesyia mission — This quest rewards Elderberries

  • Pick them in Delesyia — Visit Delesyia directly and harvest them from bushes

  • Steal from harvest bags — Check harvest bags at Pororin Village (randomized, may contain Elderberries).

Bring at least 3 Elderberries to ensure you reach 100 trust.

Pro Tip: Grasshoppers would do too.

Step 3: Feed the Crake to Build Trust

Approach the Crake and feed it Elderberries or grasshoppers:

  • Each Elderberry gives +35 trust

  • Feed 3 Elderberries = 105 trust (exceeds the 100 requirement)

  • No Sotdae of Bond feeder needed — tethered/flightless birds work differently than wild birds.

The trust meter will fill as the Crake eats. Once it hits 100, you’ll get a prompt to claim it.

Step 4: Claim the Crake as Your Pet

When trust reaches 100:

  1. Hold the selection button

  2. Press the Claim option

  3. The Crake is now registered as your permanent pet.

Your Crake will follow you and auto-loot items from defeated enemies after fights.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don’t use the Sotdae of Bond feeder — Crakes are flightless/terrestrial birds and don’t require the bird feeder equipment

  • Don’t bring regular meat — Crakes eat fruits/insects/grains, not meat

  • Don’t expect it to spawn guaranteed — Crakes have RNG spawns; you may need to run around the Pororin/Howling Hills area multiple times

  • Don’t forget daily caps — Feeding has a 3-per-day cap for most pets, but Golden Apple bypasses this with +100 instant trust

Pro Tips for Faster Taming

  • Use Golden Apple instead — If you have one, feed it for +100 trust instantly and tame the Crake in seconds

  • Visit at midnight — Trust caps reset at 12:00 AM game time, letting you feed again the same night.

  • Check multiple spawn points — Crakes share spawn areas with Kiwi Birds, Mesites, and Swamphens near Pororin’s fences.

Getting the Crake is straightforward once you find one and bring Elderberries. It’s one of the 30 new pets added in Patch 1.09, making Crimson Desert’s pet collection even more diverse.
