In Subnatuica 2, the Tailing Chest is located in Tailing Village, a hot thermal zone found roughly 1,200 meters east-southeast of your Lifepod near an alien-looking tower and the Alien Research Outpost.

How to Find the Tailing Chest Blueprint
Step 1: Unlock Heat Tolerance Adaptation
Before traveling, you must activate the Heat Tolerance mod/adaptation or you’ll die from the extreme heat in this zone. Heading to Tailing Village without this upgrade is fatal.
Step 2: Head east-southeast toward the alien tower
From your Lifepod, travel between E and 105 compass headings for approximately 1,200 meters.
You’ll know you’re in the right thermal zone when you spot a distinctive alien-looking tower.
Step 3: Locate the Alien Research Outpost
Once you see the tower, travel northeast to find the Alien Research Outpost base.
You can scan the Growbed on the roof (top-left of the building) and another one off to the side.
Step 4: Travel between E and 75 compass heading
From the Alien Research Outpost, head straight forward between E and 75.
You’ll pass a large metal structure on the right (interactable later in the game). Continue onward until you reach the Tailing Village with large round alien structures.
Step 5: Scan Two Tailing Chests
Look for large round structures/huts — the Tailing Chests are typically inside them or at their base.
Use your Scanner for 2.5 seconds on each chest to scan it.
You need to scan 2 Tailing Chests to unlock the blueprint.
Warning: A Marrowbreach (dangerous creature) lurks in this area — bring a Sonic Resonator for defense.
Critical Mistakes to Avoid

Skipping Heat Tolerance: Entering the thermal zone without the Heat Tolerance adaptation will kill you instantly

Scanning only 1 chest: You must scan 2 chests to unlock the blueprint, not just one

Placing on seabed: The Tailing Chest must be placed on your base, not on the seabed (though it can be outside in water)

Missing the landmark: The alien tower is your key waypoint — if you don’t see it, you’re not in the right zone

Running into Marrowbreach unprepared: This area has a dangerous creature; bring a Sonic Resonator otherwise you may die while searching.
The Tailing Chest gives you 25 extra storage slots that can be placed outside your base beside farms, streamlining your resource gathering and base efficiency.
