In Crimson Desert, you can get the raccoon pet by catching a wild raccoon near water, then building its trust to 100 with food until the “take in” prompt appears. Below is everything you need to know: spawn‑friendly locations, exact taming steps, food types, and how to avoid the common “inventory full” roadblock.

Detail Info
Pet type Raccoon companion
Unlock method Tame wild raccoon to 100 trust
Best food types Fruits (berries, apples, pears), some vegetables
Approx. trust per fruit Around 35–40 trust per item
Best zones to find them Heidel riverbank area, Three Saint Falls water region
Max‑pet limit caveat Cannot “take in” if you already have 30 pets active

The two most reliable spots for raccoons are the Heidel riverbank area and the Three Saint Falls water zone to the north of Hernand.

  • In Heidel, run from the main town toward the Gold Leaf Trading Post and then down to the riverbank. Unofficial test‑zones and fast‑travel points along this river are hotspots.

  • At Three Saint Falls, head north from the starting area until you reach the big waterfall and nearby teleporter; raccoons will often appear along the shoreline and rocks.

Within these zones, keep an eye on pink flower beds and shallow river edges; raccoons spawn frequently there and are small, fast, and skittish.

How to catch a wild raccoon

Step 1: Prepare food and inventory space

  • Stock up on apples, berries, pears, or similar fruits from Heidel’s grocer or by foraging.

  • Optionally bring carrots or other vegetables; raccoons will eat them but fruits give noticeably higher trust gain.

  • Make sure your inventory has at least one free slot and confirm you have fewer than 30 active pets, or you won’t be able to “take in” the raccoon later.

Step 2: Lure and grab the raccoon

  • Walk along the riverbank areas in Heidel or Three Saint Falls, watching for small, quick raccoons that dart around pink beds and rocks.

  • When you see one, move slowly and click the interaction prompt to pick it up; if it jumps away, let it respawn or circle the area again until you successfully grab it.

Step 3: Feed it until trust is full

  • With the raccoon in your hand, open your inventory and select a fruit (berries, apple, etc.).

  • Use the feed / give option on the raccoon; each fruit typically adds roughly 35–40 trust points, so you can usually reach 100 in one or two feeding sessions.

  • If you run out of fruit, you can supplement with vegetables or meat, though trust gain will be lower.

Claiming the raccoon as your pet

Once the trust bar hits 100, the “Take in” prompt will appear in the bottom‑right HUD.

  • On controller (Xbox), press Y; on PlayStation, press Triangle to confirm and officially adopt the raccoon as your pet.

  • If the button is greyed out or the prompt never shows, check that you have not hit the 30‑pet cap and that you are actually interacting with the raccoon while holding it.

After adoption, the raccoon appears in your Pets tab and can be summoned or dismissed like any other companion.

Critical mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring the 30‑pet cap: If you already have 30 pets, you cannot “take in” the raccoon even if trust is 100; you must release another pet first.

  • Using only low‑trust food: Relying on meat or random junk food will drag out the process; fruits and specific veggies are the fastest route to 100 trust.

  • Spamming catch‑and‑release: Constantly picking up and dropping raccoons without feeding can waste time and inventory space; focus on one raccoon, feed it, then adopt before moving on.

Owning the raccoon not only adds a unique, mobile companion but also helps you experiment with trusted‑pet loadouts and food‑efficiency strategies that carry over to other pets. Having a cheap, fast‑tame raccoon early improves your loot‑handling and inventory management as you push into higher‑level content.
