In Crimson Desert, the Desert Fox is located in Demeniss, near the Bursada Castle Ruins, and can be tamed using raw meat to reach 100 trust points before registering as your pet.
Where to Find the Desert Fox in Crimson Desert
The Desert Fox spawns exclusively in the Demeniss region, making it one of the more region-specific pet companions in Crimson Desert. Unlike domesticated cats and dogs found in towns like Hernand, foxes roam wild in specific outdoor areas.
Navigate southwest toward the Bursada Castle Ruins.

The fox family consistently spawns near Red River bend. This spawn point is reliable, with multiple foxes appearing together in family groups.

If you don’t immediately see foxes upon arrival, try fast traveling away and back to the nearest waypoint to trigger a respawn. Foxes appear during both day and night cycles, though they may move around the immediate area.

How to Tame the Desert Fox
Step 1: Catch the Fox
Unlike cats and dogs that you pet while stationary, you must physically catch the Desert Fox by approaching it and holding the interaction button. The fox will attempt to flee, so approach carefully and grab it when the prompt appears. Once caught, your character will hold the fox by the scruff of its neck.

Step 2: Feed the Fox Raw Meat
Open your inventory menu while holding the captured fox. Navigate to any Raw Meat in your consumables and select the “Feed” option. Each piece of raw meat grants +40 trust points when fed to a held fox—significantly more than the +10 trust dogs and cats receive from the same item.

Step 3: Repeat Until 100 Trust
Continue feeding the fox meat until the trust meter reaches 100/100. You’ll need approximately 3 pieces of raw meat to reach full trust (40 trust × 3 = 120, exceeding the 100 threshold). There is no daily feeding cap when the fox is held in your arms, allowing instant taming.

Step 4: Register as Your Pet
Once trust hits 100, the “Take In” prompt will appear when you interact with the fox. Select this option to permanently register the Desert Fox as your companion. It will now appear in your Pets inventory tab (press R2/RB to navigate to Pets on console, or the corresponding PC key).

Critical Mistakes to Avoid When Taming the Fox
-
Dropping the fox before 100 trust: If you release the fox from your arms before reaching full trust, it will flee and you’ll need to catch it again, resetting your progress.
-
Using the wrong food type: While grilled meat works for standard pets, raw meat is far more efficient for the Desert Fox, granting quadruple the trust per item.
-
Approaching too aggressively: Foxes are skittish wild animals. Sprint toward them and they’ll bolt before you can interact. Walk or crouch-walk for a successful catch.
-
Not bringing enough meat: Purchase or hunt at least 5 pieces of raw meat before attempting the tame to avoid multiple supply trips. Raw meat can be bought from butchers in Hernand or obtained by hunting wildlife.

Pet Mechanics & Benefits
Once tamed, the Desert Fox functions identically to other pet companions in Crimson Desert. Summon your fox from the Pets tab in your inventory, and it will follow you throughout Pywel. During combat encounters, pets automatically loot defeated enemies and gather nearby resources, collecting items like currency, crafting materials, and equipment.
Ensure you maintain open inventory space for your pet to deposit collected loot. Pets can be equipped with cosmetic armor purchased from the pet shop in Pororin Village (requires completing “The Unreachable Village” quest chain to access this Shai settlement).
You can unsummon pets at any time through the inventory screen to prevent them from engaging in dangerous boss fights or stealth scenarios. Up to 30 unique pet variations can be collected for Life Challenges and achievement completion.
