A quad-core Android smartphone that costs only $160 (999 yuan). That is what the ZTE U950 is all about, an Android 4.0 smartphone powered by a 1.3GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor that will make even the extremely affordable Nexus 7 hang its head in shame.

The ZTE U950 also packs in a 4.3″ WVGA display, 1GB RAM, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording, VGA front-facing camera, 4GB storage (no mention of a microSD slot), and a 2000 mAh battery. Oh, and the U950 is also only 9mm thick.

The first 100,000 customers who register now will be eligible to order on November 11th, and I’m guessing a lot of people will be lining up to get the U950, thanks to its dirt cheap pricing. Of course, as is always the case, don’t expect the phone to leave China.
