Google is rolling out a new version of the YouTube app, 13.14.54, and it sure looks like packing a punch. YouTube may soon start advising you on which videos you should check out for downloading — it already suggests you videos, but these will be the ones you might want to download.

In some countries, YouTube allows you to download the videos, while it a part of YouTube Red in others (mostly). Let’s get to the new code that hints at the above-mentioned feature, and what else is new in the YouTube 13.14, which succeeds the version 13.12.

APK Teardown

Disclaimer: Before we dive deep into the this APK teardown, you should know that this is based on information or rather evidence found in the APK. Given that it’s not part of the official changelog, we cannot guarantee that everything we find will materialize at some point. If anything, this is purely based on speculation and educated guesses.

Video download recommendations

As mentioned above, YouTube might suggest you videos that you may want to download for later viewing. Here’s a code for that.

LIVE notification

We think the app will start showing a new notification in the panel when you have a Live event going on.

<string name="custom_notification_live">LIVE</string>

More options in chat action menu

YouTube would soon allow you to add participants, and mute and unmute notifications, right from the action bar menu in the chat window.

<string name="action_bar_menu_item_add_chat_participants">Add participants</string>
<string name="action_bar_menu_item_mute_chat">Mute notifications</string>
<string name="action_bar_menu_item_unmute_chat">Unmute notifications</string>

Secondary App IDs

Something for the developers, letting them enable, well, secondary app IDs.

Are you excited about the video download suggestions feature? Is anyone of you already seeing this feature come live on their device?
