The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was released back in 2017 as a wallet-friendly smartphone with decent specs. The device runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box, and obviously, owners have been hoping their handset will get the Android Oreo update at some point.
Given Xiaomi rolling out Android Oreo for Mi 5s Plus today — another long-time pending device in the list of Android 8.1 release — should ease the pain of impatient Redmi 5 users a bit as this shows Xiaomi does keep working behind the scene to bring the updater sooner or later.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi started pushing the 9.6.4 update (MIUI 9) to users but the rollout was halted due to some issues. Well, now it appears the long-awaited build has started seeding out again today, retaining the version number. As you can see from the screenshot below, some users have already started receiving it over-the-air.
