Xiaomi Mi Band 3 specs and features

  • IP68 certification
  • OLED display screen
  • Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC and GPS

Xiaomi Mi Band 3

The Mi Band 2 ships with an IP67-certified body that houses a 0.42-inch OLED display screen, has Bluetooth 4.0 LE, low-power accelerometer, photoelectric heart rate sensor and a 70mAh battery unit. A recent Bluetooth certification of the Mi Band 3 revealed that the device will come with model number XMSH05HM and upgrade to Bluetooth 4.2 LE and while a host of sensors are expected to be retained from the Mi Band 2, expect the fitness tracker to get better versions.

The Mi Band 3 will come with features such as a pedometer and calorie counter as well as a better OLED display screen compared to the issue-prone version on the Mi Band 2. Also, users of the 2016 model have been experiencing issues with the heart rate sensor, something that should be addressed in the new model.

Although an IP67-rated body is still a good choice, rumors suggest that the Mi Band 3 will come with the superior IP68 dust and water resistance. In order to keep the USP of these bands, Xiaomi is expected to up the battery capacity to beyond 70mAh, but this could have an impact on the overall size of the tracker.

Even more interesting is the possibility of added support for NFC and GPS connectivity, however, the addition of the latter would demand a bigger battery due to the power consumption associated with GPS sensors.

One of the major selling points of the Mi bands is their low-cost nature, just like other Xiaomi products. The Mi Band 2 came in priced at 149 yuan in China and INR 1,999 in India, which is about $30. Although not confirmed, we don’t expect drastic price changes, but a slight increment is possible.
