Xiaomi isn’t your favorite smartphone vendor if you’re after timely software updates, but the latest development takes this aspect a notch higher. Apparently, users of the Xiaomi Mi 5s will have to wait until somewhere in November 2018 before the update to Android Oreo arrives.
This will be more than a year since the OS first went live and a few months after its successor, Android P, comes around. The standard Xiaomi Mi 5 already received the update to Oreo and given the superiority of the Mi 5s, it was even expected to get the nod ahead of the standard model.

According to Xiaomi, the delay is due to a technical issue with the Qualcomm-made ultrasonic fingerprint module used on the Xiaomi Mi 5s. On the brighter side, a solution has already been found, but it may take time to work on the development and adoption of the solution since it involves changing the underlying code.
Xiaomi Mi 5s was announced towards the end of 2016 with Android Marshmallow on board and has since received an update to Nougat. With the update to Android Oreo, it will be the second and final major OS upgrade for the device, but of course, MIUI updates will still be at your disposal.
