Samsung has so far rolled out a total of seven Android Oreo beta updates to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in the U.S. and fewer in other markets. As of this writing, the company has also confirmed that the beta program is no more, indicating that the Oreo stable release for the 2017 trio, including the Galaxy Note 8, should be out anytime soon.

But what about the 2016 Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge? If this is you asking this question, well, you are in the right place because we’ve got some answers for you.

No official release date

First, you need to understand that Samsung has not given out any specific release date for Android Oreo on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, leave alone the S7 and S7 Edge. However, looking at how the company has been rolling out new software updates to its high-end devices, we have an idea of when you can expect to get Oreo on your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.

Android Oreo release roadmap

Oreo to roll out to Galaxy S8 and Note 8 first

Galaxy s7 Android 8.0

As usual, Samsung will roll out the Oreo update to its immediate flagship phones before doing the same to their predecessors. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are expected to start receiving Oreo anytime from now and they’ll be followed by the Galaxy Note 8.

OTA updates take weeks before hitting all devices. This means that it may take the whole of February and March for all Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices to be upgraded to Android Oreo.

Galaxy S7 Oreo release date

Typically, it’s only after Samsung is done with rolling out the updates to the S8 and Note 8 that they’ll turn to the 2016 flagships.

In short, you can expect to receive Android Oreo on your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge somewhere in March or April 2018, which is around the same time the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge started getting Nougat a year ago.
