WhatsApp beta users are receiving a new update that brings along a new ability to instantly switch between audio and video calls.
The developers of WhatsApp are always rolling out new updates, probably several times a week. Even though not all of these updates come with new features, they always have something to offer, no matter how small. The latest addition might look small, but it’s definitely an interesting one.
At the moment, users of the regular version of WhatsApp have the hardest of times when it comes to switching between a voice and video call. When on a voice call, the only way to switch to a video call is to end the current voice call and initiate a new video call. As you can see, this is truly frustrating; however, those using the latest WhatsApp beta don’t have to go through all this hassle.
In the updated version, WhatsApp users can easily switch from a voice to a video call with a single tap. There’s a new button between the microphone and speaker buttons and when pressed, it’ll send a video call request to the person on the other end. This person can either accept or reject the request to switch to a video call. In case of the latter, the voice call will continue normally.
Apparently, the feature is available in WhatsApp beta 2.18.1 and above and it only works on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and newer. If you are not part of the beta program, you may want to get the APK file from a trusted source like the APK Mirror and install it manually. As for the rest of non-beta users, it shouldn’t be long before this feature hits the stable channel via the Play Store.
