China-based electronics company Smart Devices introduced its new SmartQ u7 Android tablet this week.
The upcoming tablet features a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display,  a TI OMAP4 dual core processor, and a built-in 40 lumen Pico Projector that enables it to project a 50-inch, 854 x 480 pixel image on a wall or screen about 6 feet away. This feature is useful for presentations, movies, videos and other multimedia content, Additionally, it also offers an HDMI port, audio jack, and microSD card slot. No details on what version of Android the SmartQ U7 will run on, are known for now.
The SmartQ u7 Android is slated to release in two versions: an 8GB model with 1 GHz OMAP 4430 CPU  for $315.00; and a 16GB model with 1.5 GHz OMAP 4460 CPU, which will set you back by $400. Considering it is a Chinese tablet, the price may appear to be way too much on the higher side, but if you were to consider the fact that it has a proper PICO projector built-in, which on its own is likely to cost around $200, it actually seems to be a pretty sweet deal.
Again, this is a niche product, and only those who have a specific need for an embedded projector are likely to go for it. Launch details have not been disclosed yet, and we’ll keep you posted once we know more.
