The Sony Xperia Advance (known outside the US as the Xperia GO) is now available in the U.S. Sony had announced a November release of the Xperia Go in Canada through Fido, and that customers wanting to pick up an unlocked handset could walk into a Sony Store to purchase one.
Moving stateside, the Xperia Advance, is available fully unlocked, through online retailer Newegg for $249. The Xperia Advance is a mid-range handset sporting a 3.5″ 380 x 420 display, a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, a 5MP main camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. While the specs may not be particularly impressive, what makes the Xperia Advance stand out, is its IP67 certification, which indicates the highest levels of water and dust resistance in any smartphone, making this an ideal device for users who love the rugged outdoors.
The Xperia Advance will be compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s HSPA network, but if you’re expecting LTE you will be disappointed. Like I mentioned earlier, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, and need a rugged device, it can’t get more rugged than the Xperia Advance. And if you still have doubts about its ruggedness, this short video will help clear them.
