What to know

  • Uber users in India can now book up to three trips at once.
  • Once booked, the ride details can be shared via messaging apps or via a text message.
  • The update is being rolled out in a phased manner in the country.

Users in India can now book up to three Uber trips concurrently.  Once booked, a user can share the ride details with their contacts. The ride details will include the driver’s name, the cab model and registration number, contact number to reach the driver, a ride tracking link, and the four-digit PIN to start the ride.

This will now allow users to book rides for their contacts if they don’t have the Uber app or even a smartphone. In this way, you can book a cab for your guests without their having to do it themselves. The feature is already available in many global markets, including in the United States.

The update is being rolled out in a phased manner in India. The exact details on which cities will be the first to get it is not confirmed. Nevertheless, the ability to book three trips at once is a big leap. Until recently, the app only allowed booking one ride at a time. If users needed to book another ride, that had to be done only after the current ride ended. That inconvenience, thankfully, has finally been addressed.

Being one of the more popular cab apps in India, the ability to book concurrent rides will give Uber a big boost, especially at a time when several of their rivals already let users book concurrent rides. However, thanks to other features, such as using the same payment method for all the rides, Uber has a clear advantage over its rivals such as Ola that require different payment methods for different rides.
