Now this is one game that should grab your attention and never let you go. Tip-Off Basketball is a free and simple basketball game where the main goal is to throw balls into a basket. Sounds quite simple, but it’s quite fun and addictive. Things like online play and bonuses for playing the game well keep things interesting and make it hard for you to put the phone down once you start playing.
Playing it is quite simple. You start by using your finger to set the trajectory of the ball, then let it go to try to put the ball into the basket. Putting successive balls into the basket rewards you with combos, for example making two successive bank shots or successive clean shots. You also earn coins, which you can spend in the in-game shop to buy or rent extras such as new colours for the backboard and net, increasing initial allowed time in career mode and more.
The game has a career mode, a training mode, and a network mode where you can compete with other players around the world. The Career mode starts at level 1 and goes on to higher levels when you complete the goal of a particular level. There are different objectives, like making a particular number of baskets, having a minimum accuracy level, achieving a particular score, etc. Also, each level is time limited, and you get extra time for making special shots. Continue to make successive baskets, and you enter Frenzy mode, in which your goal is to touch the screen at particular spots. If you touch each spot successfully and in time, the ball goes into the loop, giving you free basket points.
The Online/Network mode uses Openfeint, one of the most widely used multiplayer platform on iOS and Android to let you play online against other players. It’s cross-platform, so you can play with both Android and iOS users. It’s quite simple. You simply keep making baskets like in career mode, while the scores of the top 6 scoring players is shown on the right side of the screen. There are no special objectives however, with the only goal being to score more than other players.
There’s a training mode as well which lets you place the ball at different positions and try to score a basket from there. Graphically, the game is pleasing enough, but nothing ground-breaking or award-winning. However, once you start playing the game, you’ll be so interested in throwing those balls that the graphics won’t really matter.
