Find all Shard of Life locations in Elliot, understand how every four shards upgrade HP, and learn which collectibles are gated by Ages or abilities.
In The Adventures of Elliot, there are 60 shards, +1 HP for every four you collect, and nothing you can lock yourself out of. The catch is that a lot of shards sit behind abilities and behind specific Ages you haven’t reached yet, which is why people think they’ve missed one when they really just need to come back.
There are 60 Shards of Life in The Adventures of Elliot, and every 4 you collect permanently add one container to Elliot’s max HP — none are missable, so you can clean them up later once the right Ages and abilities are unlocked.
How Shards of Life turn into health containers

The Shard of Life is Elliot’s health-upgrade collectible, the same idea as Zelda-style heart pieces. You play as Elliot alongside the fairy Faie, and the two of you travel across four Ages of the world, picking shards up as you explore. Collect four shards and they combine into one full tear of life — a permanent extra chunk of your maximum HP.
Most shards come from clearing Shrines of Life, which are short optional rooms built around a single puzzle or a focused combat arena. The rest are loose pickups, often inside chests out in the regions. A useful quirk of the map: it automatically marks unopened chests and Shrines of Life for you, so cleanup is mostly a matter of revisiting flagged icons. It does not mark the loose shards themselves, so those still take exploring to find.
Because no Shard of Life is missable, push the main story first and circle back later — once you have the bomb, dive, Faie’s Vacuum spell, and Warp, most of the blocked shards open up.
How the 60 shards split across Elliot’s four Ages
| Age | Shards (reported) | Key regions |
|---|---|---|
| Safekeeping | 16 | Eastern & Western Hucarea, Southern Caves |
| Reconstruction | 18 | Neverwither, Littlehope Village, Whiterea, Eddartrayl, Dragonpillar |
| Magic | 13 | Eastern Fields of Flon, Eddartrayl, Westerea, Ice Ruins (Whiterea) |
| Budding | 13 | Northern Whiterea, Dragonpillar |
The four Ages are Safekeeping, Reconstruction, Magic, and Budding, and each one covers its own set of regions — places like Hucarea, Whiterea, Eddartrayl, Westerea, and the Eastern Fields of Flon.
The per-Age counts come from a single breakdown, so they’re best treated as reported rather than confirmed — but they do add up to the full 60, which is a good sign they’re complete.

All 60 Shard of Life Locations (Complete List)
Note: Shards #1-24 above are obtained from Shrines. The remaining 36 shards are in chests:
Age of Safekeeping Shards (16 total)
Age of Reconstruction Shards (18 total)
Age of Magic Shards (13 total)
Age of Budding Shards (13 total)
The pattern is clear: early shards in Hucarea are mostly free pickups, the Reconstruction region leans heavily on the bomb to open Secret Shortcuts, and the back half of the count lands in Whiterea and around Dragonpillar, with the final Shard #60 tucked into Dragonpillar Sublevel 3 behind Warp. Shrine of Life 13, or Shard #36 of 60, is a good example of how a shrine works — switch to the Age of Magic, find the auto-marked shrine icon on the southeastern edge of Eddartrayl, clear the puzzle-or-combat room, and the shard is yours.
Ability-gated shards and why players think one is missing
In The Adventures of Elliot, the only Shard of Life math you need is four shards per HP container.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Shards of Life are there in total?
There are 60 Shards of Life in the game, and collecting all of them is how you fully max out Elliot’s health.
How many shards do you need for one HP upgrade?
Four. Every four Shards of Life combine into one tear of life, which permanently adds a container to your maximum HP.
Are any Shards of Life missable?
No. None of the 60 are permanently missable — if a shard is blocked, you can come back once you’ve reached the correct Age or unlocked the ability it needs.
Why can’t I find a Shrine of Life a guide mentions?
You’re almost certainly in the wrong Age. Locations shift between the four Ages, so a shrine tied to, say, the Age of Magic won’t appear at all in the others. Switch Ages and the icon should show up on your map.
Can you buy Shards of Life with in-game currency?
No. Shards are found out in the world and earned from Shrines of Life — there’s no shop that sells them, and no currency cost is attached to any of them. Anything mentioning Sheckles or Robux is from an unrelated game.

Does the map show where every shard is?
Partly. The map automatically marks unopened chests and Shrines of Life, which covers most of the count, but it does not mark the loose shards themselves — those you still have to find by exploring.
