The T-Mobile LG V20 is receiving an update to firmware build 10i today. OTA updates for the firmware will start shortly, but developer autoprime over at xda has already put up the firmware KDZ file for anyone to download/install the update manually.
The new firmware build comes with December security patch and other big fixes. While this sounds good for the majority of users, but the pro users among us who like to keep root access on their Android devices might not be happy about the update as it includes a patch for dirty cow root exploit.
Notably, developer jcadduono rooted the T-Mobile LG V20 some time back taking advantage of the Dirty Cow vulnerability on Linux kernels which was also present on the LG V20. But with the 10i firmware update, the security loophole has now been patched and so for the meantime there’s currently no root method for the T-Mobile V20 H918 10i firmware.
If you’re on Verizon or AT&T LG V20 variants though, you can still root your V20 with the current root trick until the December security update arrives for the devices.
