Whenever Android devices, especially one which is regarded as the reigning superphone get an update, it is a big deal, irrespective of whether it’s a bump-up to the next version of the OS or a minor incremental firmware revision.

Samsung Galaxy S3 users on T-Mobile USA, have started receiving an OTA update starting yesterday. While those hoping for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update would be disappointed, this update does bring some minor stability improvement to the device, without changing the OS version though, which will remain at 4.0.4. However, look at it from the point of view that T-Mobile users are now one step closer to the big one- the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The OTA update revises the software version to T999UVLJ4, and brings the following improvements:

  • Resolved Media Hub playback issues
  • Pinch & Zoom backend changes – No visible user  changes

You can download and apply the update OTA, or through Samsung KIES. Keep in mind though that if you are not running the T-Mobile stock version of Android you won’t get the update.

You can apply the update OTA by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update on your Galaxy S3. For more details on the update, or for detailed steps on how to apply it via KIES, you can refer to the official T-Mobile Support Page for this update
