In Subnautica 2, scanning the Houndgar provides you with crucial data to enhance your loadout. By tracking down this camouflaged predator and successfully analyzing it, you gain access to defensive upgrades that make exploring the waters much safer.
The Houndgar frequently roams the waters around the Lifepod location, making it one of the more accessible predators to track early in your adventure. Keep an eye out for its flashing camouflage displays in the nearby biomes to pinpoint its exact location.
Step 1
Equip the Bioscanner tool in your active quick slot before leaving your base or Lifepod. Ensure it has a fully charged battery to avoid running out of power during the encounter.
Step 2
Navigate to the waters surrounding the Lifepod location and look for flashing motion camouflage patterns. The Houndgar uses chromatophores to dazzle its prey, which makes its visual display highly noticeable from a distance.
Step 3
Approach the creature cautiously while keeping an eye out for a Marrowbreach. The Houndgar flushes out prey for the Marrowbreach, so a larger attack might be imminent if the Houndgar is actively hunting.
Step 4
Aim the Bioscanner at the Houndgar and hold the activation button until the analysis is complete. Maintain a safe distance from its beak, which is capable of tearing through tough materials.
