Soon after Google’s announcement about the Android 5.1 update came out, the factory images of the newer iteration of the platform started emerging for select Nexus devices. In the meantime, Sprint has announced on its official website that the Nexus 6 units will be receiving the update today.
On its support page, Sprint claims that the Android 5.1 update for the Nexus 6 will have the build number LMY47D and that it will be rolled out as an OTA update. Though the carrier has not been accurate with the rollout dates, if you own a Sprint Nexus 6, you can check your device for updates.
The Nexus 6 will get several enhancements and bug fixes as a result of the Android 5.1 update. Some of them include enhancements in sending MMS, factory recent protection and bug fix for duplicate SMS messages.
Remember that all the variants of the Nexus 6 smartphone and not only the Sprint model will be getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update in the coming day as Google is ready with the same.
The factory images for the update have been leaked for Nexus devices including Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi model. The other Nexus devices are yet to receive the factory images.
The Android 5.1 update brings a slew of features catering to different segments of Android users. It brings support for dual SIM and also high-definition voice calling supporting. There is device protection as well to prevent stealing or help in finding a misplaced Android device by resetting the handset to factory settings.
