Sprint Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are now finally receiving the Android 5.1.1 update with firmware build OF7. But if you’re someone who can’t do without having root access on your device then we’d recommend you to hold on for now, to NOT update your device via the OTA.

The Ping Pong Root won’t work on Android 5.1.1, not on your Sprint Galaxy S6 and S6 edge nor on any other variants of the two devices running on the 5.1.1 update. There’s only one working method to root 5.1.1 devices and that’s flashing a custom kernel called UniKernel which comes with auto-root.

The UniKernel has support for a number of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge variants, but the Sprint Galaxy S6 hasn’t been mentioned there yet. So we wouldn’t recommend you to try it for the time being. Also, we don’t have the full firmware either yet. So it’s better to not risk flashing a custom kernel and then be stuck with a phone that won’t boot.

We’ll update this post as soon as we’ve information on rooting the Sprint Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 update. Stay tuned..
