Android version updates used to be pretty quick for Sony devices but things have been upsettingly quiet with regard to Android 10. Last month, Google was not so silent about Android 10 updates on devices from other OEMs as it announced out loud that select smartphones from ASUS, LG, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Transsion, and Vivo will get Android 10 before the year ends.
With respect to Google’s previous timeline, Sony has now released the Android 10 roadmap for its Xperia smartphones. What this means is, an update to Android 10 will soon roll out for you if you own any one of the devices mentioned below. Sony has also provided a rough timeline for when to expect the update to come out.
- Xperia 1 – December 2019
- Xperia 5 – December 2019
- Xperia 10 – Early 2020
- Xperia 10 Plus – Early 2020
- Xperia XZ2 – Early 2020
- Xperia XZ2 Compact – Early 2020
- Xperia XZ2 Premium – Early 2020
- Xperia XZ3 – Early 2020
With Android 10, Sony Xperia smartphones will soon feature a system-wide dark theme, gesture-based navigation, floating chat heads, optimized sharing, detailed permissions, additional customizations through accent colors, and Live Caption in real-time when playing videos and audio.
