Not so long ago, Motorola made its official plans for Android 9 Pie updates known to the public and not to waste any time, Sony has now made its intentions public too.

The Japanese company has been one of the best when it comes to Android software updates, be it major OS upgrades or monthly security patches, which is no surprise that we now have a list of Xperia phones that will receive Android Pie update from them, well ahead of the likes of Samsung and Huawei.

Through its official blog, Sony confirmed that Android Pie updates will start rolling out in November 2018 to its premium devices and the midrangers will join the party in early 2019. The former camp has the trio of Xperia XZ2 phones, the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact and the XZ Premium while the latter camp has this year’s Xperia XA2 trio.

According to Sony:

We always aim for the quickest possible upgrade rollout from the time Google makes its announcement to when it reaches your smartphone. And it’s essential that Sony engineers have the time to implement all our feature upgrades and test devices to meet our high-quality standards.

While Sony has been testing Android Pie beta on the Xperia XZ2 for weeks now, it’s strange that the wait for the stable version to arrive has been pushed to November 2018. Still, we won’t be surprised if the OS comes in ahead of schedule, a move that would definitely be welcomed by fans.
