Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been succeeded three times, meaning they’ve also fallen down the pecking order when it comes to software support.

The newest flagship devices from Samsung receive monthly security patches while the aging models and most midrange and budget phones receive updates after two or three months. Given that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been around since 2016, they’ve recently been receiving quarterly software updates, but not anymore.

Going forward, the S7 and S7 Edge will no longer be guaranteed to receive software updates from Samsung, instead, those using these two devices will only receive random software updates, most probably critical bug fixes.

This change comes about two months after the S7 and S7 Edge dropped from the monthly security updates group into the quarterly group, but it doesn’t affect the S7 Active.

Today, the Galaxy S10, S9, and S8 as well as the Galaxy Note 9 and Note 8 remain Samsung’s top priority in the premium family of phones with guarantees for monthly security updates.
