Jolla, the Finnish technology company, is bringing its Sailfish OS to Xperia phones, owing to a tie-up of the Finnish conglomerate with Sony and its Open Device Platform. Jolla showcased an Xperia X smartphone running on Sailfish OS at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today.
Jolla, which has its own fan base, announced at a press event at MWC this morning that it will be officially releasing its Sailfish OS for a range of Sony’s Xperia branded devices. Although it showed the Sailfish OS based Xperia X, there’s time before the official version hits the markets. And that wont’ be anytime before June 2017.
It is definitely refreshing to see Sony Xperia X running something other that the default Android. Xperia X, which was launched with Android Marshmallow OS on board, has been upgraded to Android 7 Nougat version.
