There’s been many instances where I’ve hesitated before updating to a new firmware on my Android phone in fear of losing root access. Even when I had a Symbian phone, I would check whether a new update was hackable already before updating to it. Well, with Android phones, there’s always a chance that after updating to a new firmware, specially when it’s a completely new version of Android, you lose root access on the phone and then have to wait for a root exploit to be discovered for the new update.

The HTC Sensation recently got the official Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 update which many users updated to, losing root access in the process. Now, XDA member TheSnakeX has come up with a root method for the Sensation and the new ICS firmware, with step-by-step instructions on how to use it. And you don’t even need to S-off your phone to root it, so that’s another plus. It has also been confirmed to be working for some other HTC devices such as the Sensation XE, but there are no guarantees of that, so it’s best used only for the Sensation and other confirmed devices.

So head over to the original page on XDA to download the necessary files and for full instructions on how to root your HTC Sensation running the official Android 4.0 firmware. Do be careful to follow all the steps carefully so there’s no chance of potentially messing up your phone. Let us know how it works for you, in the comments below.
