The Korean electronics giant has decided to ditch the Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 810 chipset and would be using its own processor Exynos 7420 in the next edition to its world renowned Galaxy S flagship series phone. Even though QualComm recently announced that around 60 flagships, launched this year, would be powered by its Snapdragon 810 chipset. But still, with the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer moving out, Qualcomm has lost a major client.

As was reported, the main cause of this giant leap by Samsung is that the Snapdragon 810 chipset flunked in its testing, the chipset had overheating issues. Also Samsung does not want to rely on Qualcomm and is divulging into pushing its own Exynos processors into the mainstream global market. Hence the Galaxy S6 will be now powered exclusively by Exynos 7420 chipset. It is being suggested that this derailment of the ongoing reliability on Qualcomm by Samsung has just started and expected to be completely over.

Qualcomm processors have been preferred over others by most of the tech giants, including Samsung, across the world as they provide a single chipset solution. Also, unlike Samsung’s brand name processors Exynos, Qualcomm’s chipset include an on-board modem. The news coming from Samsung’s camp points out that the Korean manufacturer will be starting the mass production of a single solution chipset for the global market by the last quarter of this year and these chipsets will be overcoming the shortcomings (not having an on-board modem) of its previous version.

Although it would be to early to talk about the eradication of Qualcomm from Samsung camp, but this step by Samsung surely gives rise to the thought of an Qualcomm independent device. And if that works out, it would be a heart stopping news for Qualcomm as it will have a strong competitor in the market, a place hitherto, Snapdragon has completely dominated till now. Predicting the future is one thing as we will eventually come to know who has an edge over whom for the world is the stage.
