A recent report from China tips that the chip maker Qualcomm has finalized the spec sheet for the upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset. It is said that the chip maker has started sending samples of the SoC to the smartphone manufacturers for testing purposes.

At the MWC 2015 tech show in early March, Qualcomm teased the upcoming high-end SoC, Snapdragon 820. It stated that the chipset will make use of a custom designed 64 bit Kyro processor. The Kyro processor cores are said to be clocked at 3 GHz. Furthermore, there are claims that the Snapdragon 820 SoC is made using the 14 nm node manufacture technology of Samsung.

We have already heard that Qualcomm is teaming up with Snapdragon for the manufacturing of its upcoming chipset, but this is the first time that we are hearing about the processor core frequency of the chipset.

The report further suggested that the firms such as Xiaomi, HTC and Sony will be the first ones to test the Snapdragon 820 chipset. As per trusted sources cited in the report, the Chinese firm Xiaomi is planning to include the Snapdragon 820 chipset in its forthcoming Mi 5 flagship smartphone that is speculated to be launched n October this year, if the chipset performs well in tests.

The big question that remains to be answered is if the Snapdragon 820 can resolve the overheating issues that were faced by the Snapdragon 810 that was manufactured by TSMC on 20 nm platform. The 14 nm node process that Samsung is claimed to use to make the Snapdragon 820 is the one that was used to make the Exynos 7420 chipset used in the Galaxy S6. This chipset managed to render an enhanced thermal performance, and the same is expected from the Snapdragon 820 as well.
