Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL update rolling out with display burn-in fix, color modes and November security patch

pixel 2 software update

Google is currently rolling out a new software update for the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL that brings in a couple of new features and the latest security patch.

The update installs the November Android security patch and includes some fixes for the screen burn-in issue that many users have been facing. Google has also added in some new color modes and other fixes to make the display look and perform better.

In the Settings app, under Display > Colors, you can now choose between Boosted, Natural or Saturated color modes to better suit your needs. Many users had been complaining that the colors on the Pixel 2 screen look washed out and dull. These new options to fix that issue.

Another major issue with the Pixel 2 XL was the screen burn-in, prominent with the navigation bar and the buttons. In the new update, the buttons are now dimmed a few seconds after non-usage. This feature is present in the Android 8.1 Developer Preview release as well. Google has also reduced the brightness levels by 50 nit and stated that many apps would have a lighter navigation bar. All this to reduce the screen burn-in issues.

Finally, the update also gets rid of that clicking sound many users could hear on the device. The sound used to be heard when on calls or when the display was off.

If you’ve got a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL, you will be notified of the update over the air. The update weighs around 60MB and could take up to a few days to be available for all users.
