Oppo F11 Pro may be the clue to the OnePlus 7 – and it’s official

Oppo F11 Pro

Oppo F11 Pro is the latest smartphone to launch with a massive 48MP camera lens on the back, a notch-less display screen with a massive real estate stretching across 6.53 inches and a pop-up front-facing camera for the selfies. The company had announced an unnamed smartphone at the MWC 2019 with a 48MP lens and up to 10x lossless optical zoom, which means the F11 Pro is no longer a surprise.

Being one of the company’s top-end phones of the year, the F11 Pro also packs some impressive specs on the inside, including one of the most powerful processors from MediaTek, the Helio P70, allied to either 4GB or 6GB RAM. Oppo, like many other vendors, has squeezed a massive 4000mAh battery in there and further beefed it up with the proprietary VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

While it’s likely that you might never get your eyes or hands on this gem, one particular smartphone family that should take interest in the Oppo F11 Pro is the one eying the upcoming OnePlus 7. Over the recent past, we’ve seen significant resemblances between the Oppo F series and OnePlus phones that come soon after.

For instance, the OnePlus 6 borrowed some design cues from the Oppo F7 and so was the case for the OnePlus 6T with respect to Oppo F9. Now that the Oppo F11 Pro is here just ahead of the expected launch of OnePlus 7, it’s easy to assume that the latter will also borrow some design cues from the former. Also, more of these similarities exist between OnePlus and the Oppo R series, with the OnePlus 6T taking after Oppo R17.

Why all these copying and pasting? Well, it’s because the two – Oppo and OnePlus – use the same supply chain since the latter is a subsidiary of the former.

Granted, we are looking at the potential (front) design of OnePlus 7, meaning the device will do away with the notch in favor of a movable selfie camera akin to the Vivo V15 Pro. The far OEMs are willing to push just so as to do away with the notch might not always yield the best results, something that is likely going to affect this potential OnePlus 7 design.

But if all this is so that the 6T successor ends up with a massive 4000mAh battery, well and good. After all, some of us hardly use the selfie camera.
