Chinese OEM, OnePlus, has cultivated an enviable reputation in the smartphone industry. OnePlus’ 7-series devices are arguably two of the most value for money smartphones on the market right now, which says a lot about the company’s preferred business policy.
Like every other tech giant, OnePlus, too, is keen on diversifying, and has taken the first towards its newest venture — smart TVs. Almost a year after hosting a TV naming competition in the OnePlus Forum, the company has picked the winner and has revealed that OEM’s first smart TV will be called OnePlus TV.
The name won’t turn heads for sure, but the company believes “no other name that can best represent OnePlus’ value.”
Maintaining full transparency, OnePlus has also revealed the reason behind picking a rather simplistic logo.
A representative wrote on OnePlus’ Forum:
With the logo design, we’ve followed the similar concept – as you can tell from the poster below to help us illustrate how we created it. The gap between the “+” and the logo edge is twice as the one between the “+” and the letter “T”, which is also twice as the one between “T” and “V”.
We were inspired by classic geometric progression, which can be seen from so many classic art forms, such the ancient Hindu symbol, the mandala, and the famous ancient Greek temple, Heraion of Argos. And looking closer, you can tell that the we’ve used the same thickness for both logo and the letters to ensure an aesthetics of “symmetry” and “unity”.
As promised, OnePlus will not only reward the winners of the OnePlus TV: You Name It contest, but will also heavily compensate the first person to come up with the “OnePlus TV” name. We don’t have the exact specs or a tentative release date yet, but we are hopeful about seeing something extraordinary from OnePlus.
