The OnePlus 6T is one of the first major flagship phones to come with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner. OnePlus has ditched the traditional scanner and most users are on the fence and find it hard to decide which option was better.

Nonetheless, if you’ve purchased the OnePlus 6T, then you might have already noticed the cool animation when you try unlocking the device using the in-display fingerprint scanner.

The animation is actually there to serve a purpose apart from looking cool. The bring light emitted helps the scanner read your fingerprint which is why optical scanners aren’t as secure as ultra-sonic fingerprint scanners like the ones we would get to see on the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 devices.

OnePlus does provide a few different animation styles; however, some animations are restricted to specific variants of the device. Fortunately, a new app called OPFPControl lets you add a custom overlay over the scanner area.

This, of course, requires you have a rooted device since Android Pie has a limitation and does not allow third-party apps to add custom overlays.

If you have a rooted OnePlus 6T, then using the application is fairly easy and you simply need to download and install the OPFPControl application.
