OnePlus is rolling out the beta version of its Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T right now as open beta build 25 and 16 respectively. As much strange as it may sound, the OnePlus 5 Oreo beta is yet to come live. Usually, we see OEMs hand out latest update to their latest flagship, and not the last year’s one, but we’re happy to see OnePlus make a change here. Awesome!
We knew that OnePlus was working on the Oreo update at some good pace, thanks to a leak that revealed a closed-beta testing of OnePlus 3 Oreo, also supplemented by OnePlus 3T Android 8.0 firmware leak for China.
We’re yet to see Samsung release the Oreo beta for Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, but it’s not just Samsung, all other traditional heavyweight OEMs like HTC, LG, Motorola, etc. are yet to release their 8.0 update either in beta or stable. For what it’s worth, there is a beta Oreo build leak for Mate 9 by Huawei, who also hasn’t announced anything Oreo yet.
Clearly, OnePlus has shown its software prowess today by releasing a beta update of its Oreo update earlier than any other Android OEM.
You can download the Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T easily, using the links given below.

Know that these are beta builds, and thus you may run into software issues that you certainly won’t want to. That’s not to say these are not stable builds, because they usually are, but they are certainly not as stable and performing than the stable version, which should get the 8.0 update pretty soon.
Also, you may experience battery drain on your OnePlus 3/3T, while some apps may force close more than usual considering these are beta build.
Beta Oreo update OTA
Yes, the update is also available a san OTA. Presumably, you would need to be on beta build already, stable to beta is not something that’s possible, or simply practical enough.
Requirements for OTA? Simply put, if you are running a beta build already on your OnePlus 3/3T, then you would get the 8.0 OTA notification soon. To increase your chances of quickly pulling the 8.0 beta, it’s good to be on the latest pre-Oreo beta build, which is software version Open beta 24 on OnePlus 3, and Open beta 15 for OnePlus 3. The image at top is what the Oreo OTA notification would look like.
you would notice that the OTA size of the 8.0 update is pretty different in both screenshots, well that’s because the size differs depending on which beta software you currently have installed on your device. So, yes, you do not need to be on Open beta 24/15 for to be eligible for 8.0, but it’s only better to have latest version.
Do let us know how the Oreo update treats you? Does your device perform all smooth, and fast? Or are you experiencing any issues after the update?
