One million Nexus 7 tablets selling each month, says Asus CFO

There was never any doubt that the Google Asus Nexus 7 would be a hot seller. With it’s brilliant 7-inch screen, solid build by Asus, Tegra 3 powered quad-core engine under the hood, and up-to-date version of Android thanks to Google, the Nexus 7 outsold many of its more well-endowed peers since its release. The modest pricing helped sales further, with customers considering it as exceptional value given the price.

To add icing to the cake, Google’s announcement of a 32GB option, to cater to those who needed more than 16GB of storage, in two flavors  – regular WiFi only, and a WiFI + 3G option for those on the move. All of this put together, and the announcement of other Nexus devices, namely the LG-made Nexus 4 smartphone and Samsung’s Nexus 10 tablet, have added to the already raging hype around the Nexus brand. Not to mention the fact that Android 4.2, the latest version of the OS has been announced and the Nexus 7 will certainly be the first device to receive the update. Amidst all this excitement, there is one OEM who seems to be reaping the fruits of its labour now – Asus.

CFO, David Chang stated earlier this week, that Asus was clocking close to a million Nexus 7 tablets sold each month. In fact, their shipments for Q3 had jumped by almost 200 percent over the previous quarter. And guess what, the Nexus 7 3G or the 32GB rumours hadn’t even picked up at that time. Nor any major leaks around the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4.

With the new 32GB variants of the Nexus 7 getting out  into the market now, times have never looked better for Asus and Google. And more so for Google, with two other attractively priced and powerfully equipped Nexus devices hitting stores soon. Looks like Asus’ first partnership with Google has certainly worked out well for both. How about a Nexus smartphone now, Asus and Google? That should set the sales registers ringing all over again, eh?
