In a tweet to follow up on the one revealing the official Android 9 Pie roadmap, HMD Global Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, revealed that the Nokia 5 will be upgraded to Android 9 Pie this week.
True to his word, Sarvikas has once again tweeted that Android 9 Pie is ready for the OG Nokia 5. This is the second and last major OS upgrade the device is receiving following its 2017 launch preinstalled with Android Nougat.
A number of users have already started seeing the download notification, where the software is arriving as version V6.12E. As part of Pie, Nokia 5 users will enjoy a new navigation system based on gestures, Adaptive battery and brightness, predictive app actions, and more.
On matters security, the update also improves the patch level to January 2019, the latest version available.
It’s great to see HMD rolling out two OS upgrades to the Nokia 5 even though it launched before the company committed to Android One. The company has also promised to update the Nokia 3 and Nokia 6 to Pie, all of which were part of the first wave of Android-powered Nokia phones.
HMD had also promised to update the Nokia 3.1 Plus to Pie this week, but in his tweet, he doesn’t say a thing about this 2018 handset. We should hear more about it before the week ends.
