New updates are rolling out to three of Xiaomi’s popular budget phones – the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India as well as the global variants of the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5.

Since the Redmi Note 5 Pro is the same device as the global Redmi Note 5, the two are receiving the same update that installs MIUI 9.6.3. This is a stable upgrade that is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and with it comes a new Android security patch level, fixes for issues when using the device in German, fixes issues with fastboot, and adds performance improvements.

Those using the entry-level Xiaomi Redmi 5 are receiving an update with MIUI 9.6.4 and like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Note 5 global, you are getting the latest Android security patch for the month of July 2018, fixes for issues with displaying capital letters, “forget password” issue, connectivity issues with SIM 2 hotspot, and issues with contacts in dual WhatsApp.

These updates are available over the air, but since OTA updates can take time before they arrive on the said devices, you can also go the manual way and install the files on your own.
