Motorola has launched the Motorola One Power in India at a starting price of Rs 15,999 with the device going on for sale on October 5. The new device is under the Android One program which should mean the device would get Android updates quicker, including the Android 9 Pie update.
Motorola has indeed confirmed that the One Power would be among the first devices to run Android Pie via their official Motorola India Twitter handle.
Though, given the fact that they didn’t provide us any target date, we would not hold our breath for its release. Moreover, what if they are talking about their devices to run Pie update only, meaning One Power would be among the first Motorola phones to run Android 9 update?
Well, only time will tell.

One Power Android Pie update: Expected release date
- Among first few phones to run Pie update
- Not clear whether first among all Android phones or Motorola phones
- No target release date is given either
- Expected in December 2018
If they are talking of One Power being in the first among all the Android phones, then that would be impressive. We might see Pie update rolling out for the Motorola One Power in next few weeks probably if that’s the case, or maximum a beta update by mid-October.
However, if what Motorola means is that the One Power will be a first among its portfolio, then, oh man, we might be looking at December 2018 release.
While Essential was able to update their phone on the very same day Google announced the update, even the OnePlus has begun rolling out Android Pie for the OnePlus 6, which is pretty impressive from both the OEMs, especially when you consider they are not even a part of Android One program.
So if Motorola does really intend to make the One Power count among the first few phones to run Android Pie, they should release it within few weeks because we suspect we would see Android Pie from Huawei for many of its devices soon, let alone the fact that Sony could be almost ready with their Pie update too by now.
The Motorola One Power is packed with a whopping 5000 mAh battery and should easily last users two days with moderate usage.
One Power Android 9 update: What to expect
The Android 9 Pie update would bring several new features to the device. Being an Android One device the Motorola One Power would bring all the Android 9 Pie features introduced by Google. Motorola may include a few tweaks, however, these would not have any major impact on the stock UI of the device.
Some features introduced in Android 9 Pie such as Digital Wellbeing may not be included with the first Android 9 Pie build for the Motorola One Power, however, things can change as the Nokia 7 Plus has now received the Digital Wellbeing feature.
It could be possible for Motorola to release the Android 9 Pie update for the Motorola One Power with the Digital Wellbeing feature added by default.
