If you are looking to perform a factory reset on your Moto Z (or Moto Z Force), then you need to reboot into recovery mode to do that (unless, of course, you are a soft guy using software method, under Settings).
Recovery mode is a very helpful thing, one that helps you do the, well, recovery, of the stuff. If you are locked out of your device — frgotten passwords, display cracked, etc. — and need to bring the Moto Z back to factory start, a reset becomes requiring and you need to reboot into recovery mode for that.
Let’s see how to reboot into recovery mode on Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid.
How to boot into Moto Z Recovery Mode
Hardware Method
Follow the simply four-step guide below to reboot Moto Z into Fastboot or Bootloader Mode easily.
- Power off your Moto Z first of all.
- Now, press and hold Volume down + Power button together until you see anything on screen.
- Use volume buttons to bring up the recovery option on the screen.
- Now use Power button to select the option, and reboot into recovery mode.
You will boot into recovery mode, and will see 3e recovery written at top. That’s it.
Software Method
Install ADB and Fastboot driver first of all. Now, connect your device to PC (shouldn’t be powered off). Open a command window and run this command: adb reboot recovery
Moreover, if you are rooted, simply install this app called ‘Quick boot’ from the play store, open it, and tap on recovery. Provide it root permission, if it asks for that. Done, you will be in recovery mode in seconds.
