Motorola under Lenovo isn’t the same software caring OEM as it was back when Moto G sets were news. You do not get security updates in a very timely manner, and the OS update in Pie was delayed a lot, too. But now that Android 10 update is out, let’s talk about whether and when Moto G6 will get it, and also the recent updates released for the Global and Verizon Moto G6.

Will Moto G6, G6 Plus, and G6 Play get Android 10 update

Motorola is no longer updating its budget phones in the Moto G lineup with two OS updates, unlike what it used in the series’ first few years.

As the Moto G6 has already had its single OS update in Android Pie, so it won’t be getting another OS update in the form of Android 10 from Motorola. But that’s about official Android 10 update, users may still get it unofficially, see below.

Unofficial Android 10 update

Motorola may not update Moto G6 to Android 10, but all hope is not lost. The Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Power may still get Android 10 update unofficially in the form of custom ROMs as there is good support for the device in the aftermarket development scene.

The development of Android 10 custom ROMs should begin some time after Google releases Android 10 to the AOSP as that what developers use to do their work and build ROMs. But it would take a few months before stable Android 10 ROMs are available that are suitable as a daily driver.

All in all, you may begin to see Android 10 based custom ROMs beginning December 2019 but we won’t be surprised if some smart developers make one even before that.

Global Moto G6

Motorola is no longer the same company that used to roll out updates swiftly. Apparently, those using the Moto G6 will not receive monthly security updates, rather, the company will only be sending out these updates after a period of between 60 and 90 days.
