Back in October, Motorola announced a rebate program wherein you would be getting a $100 trade-in rebate on your 2011 Motorola smartphone that isn’t getting the upgrade to Jelly Bean, and now Motorola has finalized the offer and given the details on how it will work, though it’s not going to necessarily make you jump with joy.
The devices eligible for the offer are the Droid 3, Droid X2, Admiral, Atrix 2, Atrix 4G, Cliq2, Electrify, Photon 4G, XPRT, Titanium, and Triumph, and you must buy either the RAZR M, RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD, Electrify 2, Photon Q, or the Atrix HD to get that $100 rebate.
However, you will not be getting a direct discount on your purchase of one of the new Motorola smartphones. Verizon customers will be handed out a $100 Verizon gift card on buying a new Motorola device and giving in their old one, which they can spend on either accessories or to pay their monthly bill.
For other carriers, the procedure is longer, and involves you sending your old device over to Motorola along with a proof of purchase of the new phone, then waiting for 6-8 weeks to receive a $100 Visa gift card from Motorola.
While you are getting something in return for your old phone, this isn’t what we were hoping for from Motorola. Oh, and for those that bought their devices in countries other than the US, well, don’t hold your hopes high, there’s nothing to be had here. Just sell that Motorola device of yours on eBay and move on to other manufacturer’s smartphones.
